Amazing Bali

By

To some, Bali is considered one of the most beautiful destinations on the planet. If you have never been there, it is up to you to visit and decide for yourself. It is more crowded than a few decades before, but this is due to the increase in infrastructure and means of bringing tourists in. Just because it is more crowded though, doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy your stay. Touring around Bali and spending amazing Bali holidays there is sure to be an experience you never forget.

Purchasing Airline Tickets

Buy your Bali tickets in advance, and aim for a weekday departure. These have the least amount of demand, pushing the price down for the tickets. The more money you are able to save on the plane ticket purchase the more you are able to spend on your actual holiday packages, as the flights are generally the most expensive aspects of the tip (although, it is possible to splurge and spend well over $1,000 a day on the very best hotels on the island).

Holiday Packages

Look for included hotels with your airfare. When booking the hotels the same time as the airfare, you save a considerable amount of money, as you receive an extra discount. Before selecting any hotel for Bali though, read all the guest reviews. Many hotels in Bali look very nice on the outside, but have less than adequate rooms. You don’t need to spend a great deal on a solid hotel room in Bali (accommodations are rather cheap, when compared to other popular island getaways), but you don’t want to end up in a damp, dirty hotel room.

Arriving at Bali

When visiting Bali, make sure to prep yourself for the crowds. This is not just in Bali, but in any other location throughout southeast Asia. There is a very large capacity of individuals in a small space. This is most evident when arriving in Bali. There are a few beaches available directly to the west in Kuta, but these are also crowded. Your best bet is to either go to the very south of the island, or the very north. The further away you move from the airport, the smaller the crowds are and the more private beach you have.

Exchange Money

When visiting Bali, make sure to exchange your money at a reliable vendor. While making your way through the streets, you are going to see dozens of different currency exchange signs. To stop by these locations. They have scams set up to actually give you less money than what the sign posts, as they often perform slight of hand tricks to slide some of the counted money away. Instead, only convert currency at your hotel, as they provide some of the best rates, or just withdraw money from a local ATM. Most ATMs are in locked facilities, so they are safe and you don’t need to worry about theft or tampering with the machine. It is also best to use ATMs located near a bank.

Interesting Holiday in New York

I spent my previous holiday by visiting New York. There were several reasons why I took New York as my holiday destination. One of them was because I really wanted to see liberty statue. My friend said that this statue is great and of course it becomes a must visit place if you are spending your time in New York. Moreover, I also visited one of popular museums in New York namely Manhattan Museum.

At that time, I also brought my children and because I wanted to introduce them with the history of America so I took them to American Museum. The good thing is about the opening period in which I could bring my kids at night while enjoying the beauty of the scenery. Actually, I was interested after I read a little bit about New York City Breaks. At that time, I tried to find an interesting destination to visit for spending my holiday. The information was presented on LetsGo2.Com. While reading the information presented there I also managed my holiday plan. This is because there is a specific form which allows you to manage your holiday plan there. I can plan my flight so later I just need to wait for the exact time.

Besides managing my flight I also managed the place to stay. The same with the holiday service they also helped me to get a room which suitable for me. I filled out the online form and submitted it to get the complete information. I found Dylan Hotel and decided to spend 3 days there. The price is affordable enough and it is started from ?589. Because I had to finish several things so I decided to book it online. I asked a help from the consultant to help me so the process was fast and simple. In short, I really enjoy my time in New York and it becomes one of my unforgettable holidays.

Bandung, Indonesia – Shopping & Volcanoes; Really!

by Aleks Finch

Bandung, the old administrative capital of Dutch colonial rule, is an incredible settlement set in the hills of Indonesia. Now known as the Jakarta elite’s weekend playground, Bandung is host to a dizzying amount of factory outlet stores and so-called ‘richman bungalows.’ However, the imposing figure of Tangkuban Perahu, an active volcano about 1.5hr from the city centre, reminds the traveler that nature is never far in Bandung and indeed, there is a deluge of stuff to do in Bandung, both in terms of shopping and eco-tourism.

Most of Bandung’s population are of Sundanese descent, and hence they speak Sundanese, a variant of the official Bahasa Indonesia. There are a large majority of Muslims in Bandung. However, other major religious groups include Christianity, followed by Hinduism and Buddhism. There are many mosques and cathedrals of heritage that can be seen all around Bandung.

Accommodation

Hotels are plentiful in Bandung but take note that accomodation prices are noticeably higher than in locations such as Bali or Lombok. We recommend Patradisa Budget Hotel at Jalan Wastu Kencana as we feel it is value for money and the rooms are decently furnished and clean. Breakfast is included and best of all, the hotel is within walking distance of Bandung’s major malls and factory outlets.

Things to do

* Shopping

Bandung is definitely a place for all the shopaholics out there. There are many high quality fake items.Original goods are available in limited supply. Clothing, handbags, traditional handicrafts are all available in Bandung. Local shopping hotspots include Jalan Riau, Dago Street and Jalan Otto, where Pasar Baru, the 7-storied market and handicraft mega-store is located. You may have to take up to 2-3 days to fully explore and visit all the factory outlets in Bandung. However, shopping was not the main reason why The Travel Manual was there…

* Tangkuban Perahu Volcano

Tangkuban Perahu is a moderately active volcano 1.5 hrs north of Bandung. You can drive UP to the peak of Tangkuban Perahu, but strangely, not DOWN from it. Hence, the many local ‘guides’ will swarm towards you and offer their ‘expertise’ to scale down Tangkuban Perahu. If this is your first time here, we reluctantly advise you to pick a guide, who WILL overcharge you. At the peak, there will many local handicraft and strawberry sellers. There are also a few warongs at scenic locations where you can have a cup of coffee and enjoy the breathtaking scenery. Scaling down the volcano will take about 1 hour and you will pass by some steaming geysers and hot springs at the base of Tangkuban Perahu. You can have your feet massaged here with volcanic mud for about 20,000RP or alternatively, just dip your feet and relax in the plentiful hot springs around. This is a very touristy area, though.

* Kawah Putih Volcano

Kawah Putih (‘White Crater’) is an extinct volcanic crater located south-west of Bandung. The drive from Bandung city will take about 2 hours. There will be pickup vans at the base of Kawah Putih to take you up to the actual crater itself. Driving up with your own private vehicle is possible, but very expensive. These pickups only cost 15,000RP and use open-sided ‘safari-style’ pickup vans, which makes the ride up very interesting. The view of Kawah Putih itself is stunning and at times, surreal. Occasionally, the clouds will intermix with the sulphuric gases from the crater, forming this entirely white backdrop. A stunning location for photographs and a must-visit! A word of advice though,it gets really cold at the summit of Kawah Putih, so do bring along your jacket and gloves.

* Mount Papandayan

Mount Papandayan is located in the Garut Region, about 3 hours drive from Bandung. It is an active and highly unstable volcano that last erupted in 2002. Hire a guide at the base of the volcano and the trek up the volcano can take anywhere between 2 to 3 hours or an entire day, depending on the route you are taking. Along the way, you will pass by hissing sulphur vents and beautiful, eerily-white sulphur lakes.The stench of sulphuric gases is very strong here, so bring along a towel to cover your nose. At the summit of Mount Papandayan, there is a beautiful lake called Danau Hijau, which you can take swim in, if you want. Definitely a good place to snap great photos as the scenery is breathtaking. A must-go as you can get up-close to boiling craters and sulphur vents with no barriers. Do take your time to enjoy the scenery from the peak of Mount Papandayan.

* Maribaya Waterfalls

The Maribaya Waterfalls are located in Lembang, in the north of Bandung.Upon arrival at the Maribaya Waterfalls, we were disappointed as the waterfalls were not as shown in the brochures/online. However to our surprise, there was a National Park further down the trail called Juanda National Park, which houses historical World War 2 caves used by the Dutch and Japanese. The admission fee is 40,000RP per person to enter Juanda National Park. We then got ourselves ojeks(motorcycles) with local riders for the price of 20,000RP. They brought us down a small and rickety road into two caves,Goa Belanda (Dutch Cave) and Goa Jepang (Japanese Cave). A local guide will be present and a tour around each around 20, 000RP per group. The spooky feeling of being in the pitch-black caves will soon be overriden by the feeling of awe in being in such a historic location. The guide will even take you into the old interrogation and armoury rooms, so truly

Uluwatu Temple, on the Southern Tip of Bali Island

by

Uluwatu Temple, also known as Pura Luhur Uluwatu is one of the 5 important sea temples set along the western coastline of Bali. Tanah Lot is one of the other sea temples, and like this temple Uluwatu is built on a stunning location.

Uluwatu Temple lies right on the tip of the Bukit Peninsula. Its location, set on a cliff with the stunning ocean below is a popular picture of this Balinese temple.

The temple is made from dark gray coral and it is pretty sober but the views and dramatic cliffs make Uluwatu very impressive.

It is believed that the temple was founded by a Javanese Priest who arrived in Bali in the beginning of the 11th century.

However there is an other story going around which tells us about Danghyang Nirartha, an other priest who had built several sanctuaries throughout Bali and had become ‘one with the infinite’ at Uluwatu. He then built the temple we see today.

Once you have passed the troop of mischievous macaque monkeys and climb the stairs you arrive at the temple.

The inner courtyard is not accessible for non-worshippers. But at the entrance you will see an arch with a sculpture of Bhoma, who guards the temple from evil intruders. Additionally as a visitor you can peek over the wall and see the three roofed meru.

The highlight of a visit to Uluwatu temple is mainly the amazing views of the cliffs and the ocean. There is a path along the cliff that takes you to both sides of the temple so you can admire the temple from different angles.

If you want to add something more to your Uluwatu temple visit you can also go there towards the end of the afternoon and watch a Kecak dance performed on the temple grounds.

This Balinese dance includes a group of men chanting the music while dancers perform the Ramayana story. Uluwatu temple is probably the best place to watch this Bali performance. Tickets can be arranged at Bali travel information offices in and around Kuta beach.
